Prof. Ike Odimegwu of the department of philosophy, Chairman ASUU/NAU
made this known in a congress of student union and association leaders
held yesterday, he said that the ASUU strike is a suit that has to be
resolved between the union and the Federal Govt. It has NOTHING to do
with the administrative protocol of UNIZIK, she is a federal
university and must comply to the concession of the National Body of
ASUU, he told www.uniziksugnews.com and Faculty heads in a congress
held:
he categorically stated that any department that writes exam:
"be sure to re-write because we'll cancel it or unizik will not resume
after the strike" he also said that "there will not be any lecture,
exams (even post-Ume), university meeting whatsoever until it is
called off. No staff is going to be allowed into the school except
permitted by me and any defaulter will be penalised for any anti-asuu
activity".
The National Executive Council of ASUU met at Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago Iwoye, to consider the referendum from all branches on
whether, following the failure of ll means to use another round of
strike action to compel the FG to implement the agreement reached with
the union in October 2009.
The reason for the strike:
1. Funding requirement for revitalisation ofNigerian Universities
2. FG assistance to state universities
3.Progressive increase of annual budgetary allocation to education to
26% between 2009-2020
4.Earned Academic allowances
5. Amendment of the pension/retirement act of academics on the
professional cadre from 65 to 70years.
6. Transfer of FG landed property to universities
7. Setting up of research and development unit by companies operating
in Nigeria and basic amenities to our classrooms and Labs.
STRIKE MANDATE
1. Do not teach any course whatsoever
2. Do not attend any statutory meeting: departmental, faculty board,
senate congregation, council etc
3. Do not establish or supervise any exam at any level.
4. Do not agree in supervision of project/thesis at any level.
Justice and truth are on our side. Remain resolute.
